How to find unreleased products in FCC filings
A wireless device needs an FCC equipment authorization before it can be sold in the US. The filing is public. Photos and the manual are often withheld for up to 180 days.
The FCC ID
An FCC ID is a grantee code (3 or 5 characters) plus a product code the manufacturer picks. In ZCASMR545L, ZCA is SAMSUNG Electronics Co., Ltd. and ZCASMR545L is the product code. Search that ID in the FCC equipment authorization database. Searching the grantee code lists what that company has filed.
What stays hidden
Under 47 CFR 0.457 and 0.459, a grantee can withhold external photos, internal photos, test-setup photos, and the user manual for 180 days from the grant date. Schematics, block diagrams, and operational descriptions are often withheld longer. Lift dates assume the grantee requested the full 180 days: exhibits can go public sooner, often at launch, and filings that requested no confidentiality may already be public.
One real filing
ZCASMR545L, SAMSUNG Electronics Co., Ltd., "Bluetooth Headset", filed recently. See the FCC official listing. Test reports name the radios. If photos are withheld, the grant date plus 180 days is the latest they stay hidden, and they can appear sooner.
